Ayeyarwaddy Dolphin Tour
The Ayeyarwaddy dolphin (Orcaella brevirostris) can be found in the upper part of Ayeyarwaddy river regions Mandalay, Bhamo cities in Myanmar. Department of Fisheries protected prohibited from catching and killing a dolphin, they protected the 74 km part of the Ayeyarwaddy river between Mingun and Kyaukmyaung.
The appearance of the Irrawaddy dolphin is similar to the whale, their bodies range from 90 kg (200 lb) to 200 kg (440 lb) and length is 2.3 m (7.5 ft), a high rounded forehead without a beak, the color is grey to dark blue. Irrawaddy dolphin and fishermen are bonded in fishing together, the dolphin help fishermen by driving fish towards fishing canoes.
The Dolphins trips are only available from October to May.
Day 1: Mandalay – Mingun – SeinPankhone
Pick up from your Mandalay hotel at 08:00 am and transfer to Mingun jetty, a cruise onboard and to Mingun. Start sightseeing to unfinished pagoda Pathodawgyi which was built by King Bowdawpaya, one of the world largest Mingun bell about 90 tons, next to Hsinbyume pagoda which is the beautiful white temple in Mingun built by King Bagyidaw. Lunch on board, take a sunbath and enjoy the scenery of Ayeyarwaddy river, proceed cruising to Seinpankhone village, 30 km north of Mandalay where dolphins are live. Overnight on board.
Day 2: Seinpankhone to Mandalay
This morning after breakfast take a small canoe, follow local fishermen to see the Irrawaddy Dolphins where they are collaborating with the dolphins while fishing in the river. Learn the traditional method of fishing in Myanmar how fishermen send the signals to dolphins by tapping the canoe. Return to the Mandalay in the afternoon, on the way stop by at some villages to see lives on fishing, cheroot rolling and weaving around the Ayeyarwaddy river.
Upon arrival at Mandalay Jetty, transfer back to your Mandalay Hotel.
