Putao is the town in Kachin State Surrounded by snow-peaked mountains. It is cold during the whole year-round and there are many varieties of citrus fruits grown in the orchards. Hkakabo Razi Mountain, Phangan Razi National Park, and Hkakabo Razi southern extension park areas are included in the Hakakabo Razi region, Putao District Kachin State.
The town is the only gateway to the northern part of Myanmar for climbing Mt. Khakhabo Razi (5889 meters) which is the highest mountain in Myanmar and Southeast Asia region.
